Beedi Jalaile.. a raunchy number
Gone are the days, when you had songs meant only for a quiet evening over a cup of tea and biscuits. The times have changed; fast and catchy tunes that appeal the younger generation are hitting charts and played blaring on almost all the radio stations.
Beedi jalaile…is one such number - a raunchy dance item number from the movie Omkara that hit the charts and continues to be a hot favorite at parties and friendly gatherings. Not to miss out the mention of the song being a hit at Abhishek’s and Aishwarya’s Sangeet, with a few prominent tinsel town personalities swaying to the beat. Omkara was based on Shakespearean play Othello and this song is featured on Vivek Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu. Vivek plays the role of Kesu (Cassio in Othello). The song, the tune and an equally pelvis gyrating, rhythmic dance by Bipasha (as Billo, Kesu’s love) awakens the passions and basic instincts. It is one sensuously picturised number and a total mass appealing one.
Gulzar’s lyrics are unusually different this time and imaginatively situational, that adds a naughty color to the song. The words are suggestive and have a very rustic touch. It is lined with an overtone of arty nature. It is tangential in referring to what it wants to refer to, but still it says it all -

This boisterous number sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Sukhvinder Singh, Nachiketa Chakravorty and Clinton Cerejo under the baton of Vishal Bharadwaj. Beedi’ starts off with Vishal paying homage to R.D. Burman’s Dekha Na Hai Re Socha Na from the movie Bombay to Goa, and what follows is Vishal’s very own earthy, rustic, gyrating item number. Sukhwinder does a superb rendition of the number and makes it a fantastic dance number we have heard in a while. Sunidhi matches him proving that she can handle the spirit in the song so well. Vishal gives this song a class which otherwise could have been mistaken for one of the front benchers’ appealing number from a Govinda’s movie.
